Orient Express - The Royal Scotsman

Welcome to the ultimate luxury train experience

WE ARE OPEN FROM 9AM TO 10PM MONDAY TO SATURDAY & FROM 10AM TO 6PM SUNDAYS

Step aboard and be transported……

To step aboard The Royal Scotsman is to step into a different world. Here luxury, civility and gracious hospitality evoke gentler times; the romantic age of travel when getting there was as much fun as arriving.

It is an effortless way to experience Scotland in absolute luxury with just a few fellow train travellers, in an environment where you can give yourself over entirely to the care of the crew. With a maximum of only 36 guests aboard at any one time, you have plenty of space, time and encouragement to do as you please. Enjoy the company of others, sit idly with a good book or simply let the beauty passing by your window wash over you. On your luxury journey with us, there'll be time enough to enjoy something a little more active.

The spectacle of Scotland's great wilderness does take the breath away. Seen from the comfort of the train's Observation Car, the contrasts of the changing landscape are magnified a hundredfold, across sweeping glens, past towering peaks and black mirrored lochs.

On The Royal Scotsman nothing is too much trouble. From the moment our piper welcomes you aboard in Edinburgh, to the moment you return to this historic city, you'll be in the very best of hands, on the very best of trains.

Place yourself in our care, aboard the finest luxury train in the world.

On Board

Relax....
The Edwardian splendour of The Observation Car provides the perfect backdrop to enjoy the exclusivity of The Royal Scotsman. Its many windows give a panoramic view of the constantly changing scenery, which may be enjoyed from the comfort of the interior or from the exhilarating open verandah. Comfortable sofas and armchairs provide seating for all 36 guests and conviviality and conversation are assured. After dinner the country house party ambience is enhanced by entertainment which creates a distinctly Scottish mood.

Dine....
Dining on The Royal Scotsman is an exquisite experience. Our fixed menus reflect the seasonal changes and are consistently regarded as the best in any hotel in the world. Our extensive cellar provides a range of fine wines to accompany lunch and dinners, and we offer a fine range of liqueurs and malt whiskies. The choice of a full Scottish cooked breakfast or a Continental breakfast is available every morning. Both Dining Cars are beautifully decorated with rich mahogany panelling and luxurious fabrics. Victory provides 16 elegant settings grouped in twos and fours, while Raven has larger tables for six or eight. This offers you the chance to make new friends with your fellow guests or simply enjoy the company of the one you're with.

Sleep....
The Sleeping Cars provide 16 twin and 4 single State Cabins, beautifully fitted out in rich marquetry. All cabins have lower beds, dressing table, full-length wardrobe, hairdryer, individually controlled heating, cooling ceiling fans, opening windows and cabin service call button. Each cabin has its own private bathroom with shower, wash-basin and toilet, constant hot water, high quality toiletries and fresh fluffy, white towels every day. With the train stabled at night in a quiet siding or station you are assured a good night's sleep.

Luxury Dining

The Royal Scotsman's restaurant has gained rightful acclaim as one of the finest luxury dining experiences in Britain - moving or still. Here, the fruits of Scotland's famous natural larder - salmon, shellfish, game and Aberdeen Angus beef - are all waiting to be savoured in a menu which reflects the seasonal changes, and are accompanied by a selection of the finest luxury wines and champagnes.

The choice of a full Scottish cooked breakfast or Continental breakfast is available every morning in our luxury dining car or in your own cabin.

Our Chefs are of the highest calibre and spend time training with world renowned chefs such as Raymond Blanc, Michel Roux and Charlie Trotter.

There is a fixed menu for each meal, but do request an alternative if the posted menu does not suit you. Special diets can be arranged with the Chef on board - just advise us in advance.
